2017 William H. Spivey, MD, FACEP Research Presentation Competition
The Spivey Competition is all about original clinical research abstracts and original research e-posters. All submissions for this competition should address issues pertinent to emergency medicine. Two examples of winning abstract platform presentations from 2016 included 'Manipulation of Breath Alcohol Tests: Can Specific Techniques Alter Breath Alcohol Content?' and 'Utilization of Single Does of Oral Prednisone in the Treatment of Cellulitis'. Two winning examples of e-posters from 2016 are 'Pediatric Referrals to an ED From Urgent Care Centers, and 'Use of the KING LT Airway Device Through-the-Facemask in Helmeted Athletes...'.
Who can compete?
Presentation of abstracts is open to emergency physicians, residents, fellows, and medical students. The presenter must be one of the authors of the abstract, even if others contribute to the research and presentation.
Abstracts must be received by January 23, 2017.

This competition is a great way to showcase your residency program at the state level through discussion of unusual presentations of common or life-threatening diseases or uncommonly encountered diagnoses. The best cases are difficult, but "gettable", based on the information presented.

Cases must be received by January 23, 2017. You will be notified on acceptance within 4 weeks thereafter.
