Young Physicians/Residents

If you are transitioning from residency to private or academic practice, this section is meant for you. It is geared toward emergency physicians in their first 10 years of practice.

Since 1971, PaACEP has been promoting the delivery of quality emergency medical care to patients and supporting the professional endeavors of emergency physicians.  As a young physician, we would like to inform you of the wealth of information and opportunity available to you as a PaACEP member.

  •  PaACEP supports patients and physicians through political advocacy. At the forefront, PaACEP has worked hard to create a unified response to Governor Rendell’s Prescription for Pennsylvania healthcare reform plan.  PaACEP has been meeting with Rendell’s staff and has prepared a white paper regarding the growing problem of crowding and boarding in the emergency department.
  •   PaACEP has also recently responded to the State Board of Nursing to protect our right to perform procedural sedations in the emergency department.
  •  PaACEP provides members with quality and affordable CME courses.  These include the oral and written board review, trauma, and computerizing your emergency department programs.  Annually, PaACEP hosts the Scientific Assembly consisting of national guest lecturers, procedural workshops, and a research competition.
  • PaACEP is committed to keeping you informed via our electronic newsletter. There are opportunities for you to contribute your valuable opinions to our 1,400+ members.
  • This year PaACEP formed a Young Physicians’ Committee dedicated to enriching your professional life through membership.  In 2008, we debuted a Young Physicians’ section to our newly designed website, posted a survey to gather your input, and we will provide you with information on the ways that you can become politically involved.
  • In October, the Young Physicians’ Committee successfully hosted a networking and mentoring event at the national ACEP Scientific Assembly, and plan future events.
  • On April 15, 2010, we hosted a Residents Day & Reception at the Valley Forge PaACEP Scientific Assembly.  It was a great opportunity to network!
  • As a young physician, we hope that you will take advantage of all that PaACEP has to offer including the 50% membership discount as a first year Attending.  As always, we welcome your input.  We encourage you to join our newly created Young Physicians’ Committee.  If you have any suggestions or you would like to join our committee, please email our committee Co-Chairs, Anna Schwartz, MD at schwartzar@upmc.edu and Maria Koenig Guyette, MD at guyetteme@upmc.edu.
