Two Emergency Physicians
Elected to PAMED Leadership Positions.

Marilyn J. Heine, MD, FACEP, who practices emergency medicine at Mercy Hospital in Norristown and hematology oncology in Langhorne, was sworn in as the 162
nd president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) on October 15 during the organization’s annual statewide meeting held in Hershey, Pa.
Dr. Heine is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, and is a Fellow of ACEP and the American College of Physicians. She is an 18-year member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
More than 400 guests and dignitaries attended the ceremony including medical leadership from the Michigan, New Jersey, and West Virginia state medical societies, as well as the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, and Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants.
She is a past president of PaACEP and the Bucks County Medical Society. At the national level, Dr. Heine has been involved with the American Medical Association, AMPAC, and has had several ACEP leadership positions.
Born in New Jersey, Dr. Heine received her undergraduate degree in psychology
cum laude from Brandeis University, and her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. After serving in the Public Health Service’s Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program at the National Institutes of Health and a subinternship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) Hospital in Philadelphia, followed by a clinical and research fellowship at TJU’s Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research and the Medical College of Pennsylvania. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine and in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Heine is married to Arlin Silberman, DO, an addiction psychiatrist. They reside in Dresher, Pa., and share a mutual enjoyment of gardening, cooking, and travel.

Another chapter past president,
Bruce A. MacLeod, MD, FACEP, was elected to serve as vice president of the Medical Society at the PAMED meeting.
Dr. MacLeod will serve one year as vice president. Afterwards, he becomes president-elect for one year. In October 2013, he’ll take over as president of the statewide organization.
A 12-year member of PAMED, he has served on its board of trustees since 2003 as a hospital-based specialty trustees. From 2003 to 2009 he served as the chair of the organization’s board of trustees.
Dr. MacLeod has served as the Speaker for the ACEP Council Meeting, and has been active in several medical organizations including the American Medical Association, Allegheny County Medical Society, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, and the National Association of EMS Physicians.
Outside of organized medicine, Dr. MacLeod has served on the board of the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh as well as his local school board.
Dr. MacLeod, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, is currently a clinical associate professor with the University of Pittsburgh Department of Emergency Medicine. He served as chairman of the department of emergency medicine at UPMC Mercy Hospital from 1993 to 2010 and is now a full time clinician.
Currently, he and wife Jan have four children and reside in Pittsburgh.
