Accepting Applications for Young Physicians Leadership Fellowship Program

If you are in the first three years of EM practice in Pennsylvania or are concluding a Pennsylvania EM residency and are interested in developing your leadership skills, applications are now being accepted for the 2010 Young Physicians Leadership Fellowship program.

To demonstrate the chapter’s commitment to the development of our specialty’s future leaders, PaACEP has established a stipend for two deserving young physicians meeting specified criteria to attend the May 16-19, ACEP Leadership and Advocacy Conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington DC.

Participants will meet key decision makers for the latest updates on regulatory and legislative issues, and will meet one-on-one with their elected representatives. Interactive sessions on leadership topics, advocacy techniques, media training, health information technology, and other issues affecting the practice of emergency medicine will be presented. Attending also offers an excellent opportunity to meet with virtually all ACEP leaders, including the board and senior ACEP staff, committee chairs and chapter officers.

PaACEP will provide a $500 stipend to help offset the costs of two young physicians to attend the conference.

Candidates must be a member of ACEP and Pennsylvania ACEP, and should meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Be in the first three years of emergency medicine practice in Pennsylvania or concluding a Pennsylvania residency in emergency medicine with a commitment to stay in Pennsylvania for at least the next year.

• Should have shown evidence of leadership activity (beyond routine residency participation or chief resident responsibility) during residency.

• Has shown evidence of community or political leadership activity during residency.

• Has participated on PaACEP or ACEP committees or related activities.

• The candidate will submit a brief comment to the PaACEP Board of Directors (100 words maximum) why he or she should be selected to receive the PaACEP Young Physician Leadership Fellowship.

The application and comment submission deadline is March 12, 2010. Announcement of the recipient of the 2010 PaACEP Young Physician Leadership Fellowship will be made on March 22, 2010
